Coiled Basketry is one of the oldest forms of basket making and dates back to ancient Egypt. Coiling techniques developed independently on various continents and in various cultures around the world, using natural materials that were locally available. The process involves wrapping and “stitching” flexible materials around a firmer core. This core is known as the foundation and the wrapping materials are called binders.
